Strandhotel Duhnen – In the beginning there was a house on the beach

This is how the Strandhotel Duhnen emerged from a house on the beach. The gastronomer Amandus Mangels must have thought “This place is unique” when he decided in 1893 to build a small hotel directly on the Duhner Watt in Cuxhaven. Three years later, in 1896, he put his plan into action and the history of the Strandhotel took its course. Friedrich Wilhelm Kamp also had the right instinct when he took over the hotel from Mangels’ successor in 1922 and steered it safely through the difficult times in the years following the First World War.

This also laid the foundation for a family business, which son Klaus and grandson Kristian Kamp, the current owner of the hotel, were able to continue successfully to this very day.
As at the end of the century before last, the Strandhotel Duhnen is still in an exposed location directly by the sea. The once dreamy farmer and fishing village of Duhnen has become a modern seaside destination. The house has undergone numerous changes in the course of the decades in the form of constant redesign and expansion.

After the construction of the new Aparthotel Kamp in 2010, major construction measures in recent years have included the construction of the three-story wellness area “Levitas Wellspa”, the “Skylounge”, a modern hotel kitchen and the two “Skysuites” in 2015. The family charm and classic feel have always been preserved. Then as now our guests appreciate the relaxing hospitality and the personal service.
